Position Description
Application Architect
DTN is seeking a creative and progressive Application Architect with a passion for innovation to join our Refined Fuels Development team. As an Application Architect on the Refined Fuels team, you will be a key member developing leading edge, web-based software solutions in ASP.NET and C# technologies for the Petroleum industry. These revolutionary products include real-time information and transaction management services such as real-time credit, product and order authorization, as well as inventory support to help manage credit limits and allocations.
The Application Architect will take ownership of tool evaluation, documenting patterns and standards, defining technology strategy, technology evaluation and recommendation, mentoring developers through hands-on assistance as well as formal and informal training and technical development. The Application Architect must be able to take high level direction, formulate a plan to achieve the goals and execute the plan. Software architects on our Refined Fuels team must be able to work on multiple tasks or initiatives concurrently.
KEY ROLES AND RESPONSIBILTIES
· Lead software development efforts from a technology perspective. This involves being involved with all technical activities within the team (software development life cycle activities, code reviews, research, etc.).
· Responsible for implementing a framework that allows for the improvement of the existing system and ensures that the system can support future business needs.
· The architect will lead the implementation of various standards, including coding standards, tools, or platforms in order to facilitate strategic goals.
· Participates in product requirements discussions, ensuring an understanding of the strategic business direction.
· Analyze customer requirements and develop Software Requirements Specifications.
· Create top-level and detailed design documents for selected projects, while overseeing high-level (and sometimes low-level) design.
· Assist in development of a common vision amongst the team.
· Motivate the team to ensure high quality deliverables, standards, tools, etc.
· Acts as a mentor/coach for other team members.
· Hands on technical development and other duties as assigned
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
- BA / BS in Computer Science or Information Technology. Masters degree is desirable.
- Extensive OO software development and architecture experience is required.
- 10+ years experience in application development required.
- 3+ years experience as an application architect required
- 6+ years experience in one of the following required: ASP.NET, C#, Visual Studio.
- Experience in Oracle or SQL Server required.
- Expert experience in JavaScript, HTML, and AJAX is required.
- Proven ability to provide technical leadership & guidance, mentor, set direction and build consensus.
- Experience building highly available, mission critical systems.
- Full, hands on life cycle development experience is required, preferably with multiple methodologies.
- Good Logical and Physical data modeling experience required.
- Familiarity with various requirements gathering techniques.
- Familiarity with configuration management concepts and tools.
- Familiarity with software usability concepts.
- Experience with progressive software development practices (continuous builds, automated unit tests, etc.)
- Experience facilitating meetings with multiple customers and technical staff.
- Software prototyping experience.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential.
- Excellent organizational skills.
