Job Summary

The Managing Data Architect will oversee and coordinate data management, planning, solution design, project execution and implementation of various strategic and operational activities of the IT department, as well as provide direction and support for IT solutions that enhance mission-critical business strategies, digital transformation innovation and operations. This role will spearhead data architecture design and implementation, data governance, artificial intelligence, data quality initiatives and collaborate with key stakeholders throughout the enterprise. The Managing Data Architect will use problem solving, data profiling and data management techniques to collaborate with business and technology partners on initiatives in support of the overall digital bank strategy.  

Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Developing data strategies and solutions that propel the organization forward and align with its strategic goals
  • Defining and implementing policies and procedures for effective data handling and management that are in line with regulatory standards
  • Designing and implementing data infrastructure and organizational schemas that address current business needs, and can scale to meet future needs
  • Creating diagrams that show key data entities and creating an inventory of the data needed to implement solutions
  • Leading and developing data focused teams
  • Providing technical leadership and direction for a company’s data initiatives
  • Helping to maintain the integrity and security of the company’s data infrastructure
  • Designing a data infrastructure that supports complex data analytics services
  • Ensuring data quality by analyzing data for gaps or inconsistencies that may skew analytical results
  • Applying best practices when storing, organizing, cleaning, transforming, and mining data
  • Assessing systems and recommending necessary software, hardware and storage to meet demands
  • Streamlining data collection and analysis procedures to ensure fast access to metrics
  • Engaging with stakeholders to understand requirements for defining their strategy and vision
  • Understand Data Science and how it operates in the cloud, and how it can safely leverage AI
  • Proven expertise in data science concepts, tools, as well as data modelling and reference data architectures
  • Acting as the key point of contact for direction and expertise across Data Architecture and Data Engineering
  • Contributing to the development of innovative products and offerings that respond to market developments and the changing risk landscape

Experience Needed:

  • 10+ years’ experience in management information and technology IT operations, supervising technology teams, and overseeing large information technology projects required
  • 10 years progressive leadership experience preferred in operations, supervising technology teams, and overseeing large information technology projects
  • 5+ experience in progressive bank/financial services strongly preferred
  • Experience managing multiple projects and large initiatives

Education, Licensure & Certification Needed:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, business administration, data science, information management or related field required
  • Master’s degree preferred
  • Industry IT Certifications are a plus

Skills & Abilities Needed:

  • Strong strategic and tactical knowledge of data management, data governance methodologies, with an emphasis on the disciplines of data quality, master data and metadata management
  • Ability to effectively collaborate with business and technology partners across the organization
  • Strong attention to detail, highly organized and methodical in approach
  • Ability to develop management level KPIs, metrics and measurements
  • Ability to establish priorities and meet deadlines, manage multiple projects at one time while delivering high quality on-time results
  • Continual mastery and commitment to the continuous development of personal performance around the job-specific competencies necessary for this role
  • Specialist in complex technical and business matters
  • Fundamental project management skills, including requirements gathering/analysis and project planning
