The Vehicle Title Inspector functions under the direct supervision of the Court Security Supervisors. The Vehicle Title Inspectors are responsible for ensuring that all Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) inspections required by Nebraska State Statues and County guidelines are property performed, documented and paid for.
Inspect all out-of-state vehicles that require a Nebraska title. Ensure that the VIN on the out-of-state title and the VIN on the vehicle match in at least two places (if possible) and that the VIN is not listed as “stolen” in NCIC.
Correct, or assist the customer in correcting, any title misprints or irregularities that are not of a criminal nature. Contact a Deputy Sheriff regarding any suspicions of a criminal act.
Perform on-site inspections at the Impound Lot.
Perform on-site inspections, if requested, at car dealerships.
Maintain records of all inspections performed and all fees collected.
Perform recording, filing and copying as needed.
Report to work with regular, predictable, and consistent attendance.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, other County employees, elected officials, department heads, attorneys, law enforcement, other agencies, and the general public.
Peripheral Duties:
Assist citizens in any area concerning vehicle inspections. Directs citizens to proper department regarding any questions not related to vehicle inspections.
Assist Tow Lot Attendants with any situation involving a VIN.
Minimum Qualifications:
High school graduate or GED equivalent.
Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age.
Must be bondable.
Must possess, or obtain by time of hire, a valid State driver's license without record of suspension or revocation in any State.
Must be able to pass a background check.
Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of proper filing and record keeping systems.
Knowledge of computerized records maintenance.
General knowledge of applicable laws, ordinances, and department rules and regulations.
Skill in the use of the tools and equipment: Personal computer, including word processing and specialized software, law enforcement radio, multi-line telephone, typewriter, calculator, fax machine, county vehicle and copy machine.
Ability to communicate effectively, in English, orally and in writing.
Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.

At times the work is performed indoors in an office setting and requires routine bending, lifting and carrying office supplies: books, files and other materials. Job duties are also performed outdoors with a considerable amount of physical activity including walking, standing, kneeling, bending, crouching, reaching, pushing, pulling, stooping, and climbing. While performing the duties, the incumbent is required to talk, hear, use hands to: finger, handle, feel, or operate objects, tools, equipment or controls, and must have the ability to transport himself or herself to and from various locations throughout the county and within the Sheriff’s Office and the County Courthouse. Hand eye coordination is necessary to operate computers and various pieces of equipment and vehicles.
The incumbent is required to work in all climatic conditions from extreme heat to extreme cold including all forms of precipitation. The incumbent works near moving mechanical parts. Specific vision abilities, correctable to within normal ranges required by this job include adequate close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Communication abilities include the ability to talk and hear within normal ranges. Work hours may be required after daylight hours. The noise level may be moderate depending on activity performed.
Work requires extensive interaction with the general public and may be stressful when dealing with irate citizens and specific deadlines.
