Department/Position Details/Duties:

  • Performs quality diagnostic medical Sonograms, to acquire appropriate images and accurate diagnostic information for interpretation by a supervising radiologist.
  • Perform the minimal required safety evaluations on sonography equipment by following established guidelines to detect problems that could cause equipment to fail or pose a safety hazard to the patient / staff
  • Responsible for the accurate patient assessment
  • Provide a high level of verbal communication to calm and reassure the emotional needs of the patient for the benefit of the patient and the hospital with respect to patient care
  • Maintain the various supplies in the rooms by using good organizational skills to provide efficient and effective departmental operations
  • Maintain good working relationships with associates and staff
  • Comply with safety activities, policies and procedures and regulatory requirements such as OSHA and The Joint Commission.
  • Participate in performance improvement activities.
  • Attend and participate in department meetings.
  • Attend mandatory educational programs.
  • Follow established guidelines as stated in hospital and departmental policies and procedures
  • Employee is responsible for all other duties as assigned for which competency has been demonstrated.

Position Requirements:

Education:

  • Completion of a CAAHEP accredited program in Diagnostic Medical Sonography.
  • Formal education or work experience in vascular ultrasound required.
  • Current BLS certification required.
  • Current ARRT certification preferred.
  • Current ARDMS certification required.

Experience:

  • Experience with diagnostic ultrasound equipment, personal computers, PACS, accessories, carts and wheelchairs, biopsy supplies, med-surgical supplies (trays, specialty needles/products, etc.), general supplies (gloves, needles, basins, urinals, etc.), approved disinfecting and cleaning solutions, and general office materials/equipment required.
  • Possesses a high level of knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy.

Physical:

  • This position is classified as Medium Work in the Dictionary of Occupational Titles, requiring the exertion of 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
