Nebraska Medicine is now taking applications for a talented individual to join us as a Pathologist Assistant. This role will be great for someone that has a passion for pathology and exceptional customer service for our patients as well as our internal and external clients.

This position will work from main campus with occasional coverage at satellite laboratories across the city. Annually, we process 90,000 surgical cases and 150 autopsy cases. Our team is comprised of 3 pathologist assistants, 5 gross technologists, 2 Histotechnologist trainees, and 1 high complexity technologist. Everyone works closely with our 20+ pathologists, 7 fellows and 13 residents in an academic setting to support resident education and research

Shift:

  • First Shift (United States of America), Full Time and Benefits Eligible (1.0 FTE / 40 hours per week) Monday-Friday (0800-1700), rotating weekend, and holiday coverage

Position Highlights:

Accession, process, and dissect surgical pathology and autopsy cases.

Perform gross intraoperative assessment, frozen section microtomy, and renal adequacy assessment as needed.

Perform quality assurance of billing and block caseload.

Educate and train histotechnologist trainees, gross room technologists, and pathology residents in surgical pathology and autopsy procedures.

Participate in research protocols, build paraffin/tissue bank, and produce micro tissue arrays.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in pathologist assistant studies or biological sciences required.
  • Board Certified (or eligible with certification achieved within 12 months of hire) as a Pathologist Assistant by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Progressive, successful experience assisting with surgical pathology and/or autopsy pathology preferred.
  • Master's degree in pathologist assistant studies preferred.
