The Pediatric Dentist provides comprehensive dental care to infants, children, adolescents, and patients with special healthcare needs in a community health center setting. This role focuses on preventive and restorative care, patient and caregiver education, and collaboration with an interdisciplinary care team to address oral health disparities.
Key Responsibilities Clinical CareProvide comprehensive pediatric dental services including:
Exams, diagnoses, and treatment planning
Preventive care (fluoride, sealants, anticipatory guidance)
Restorative dentistry, pulp therapy, extractions, and space maintenance
Management of dental trauma and emergencies
Treat patients with special healthcare needs with compassion and clinical expertise
Utilize behavior management techniques appropriate for pediatric patients
Ensure all care is delivered in accordance with evidence-based standards and FQHC regulations
Educate patients and caregivers on oral hygiene, nutrition, and preventive practices
Build trust with families from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds
Promote a welcoming, trauma-informed, and child-friendly environment
Work collaboratively with dental hygienists, dental assistants, primary care providers, and behavioral health staff
Participate in quality improvement initiatives and clinical performance activities
Support school-based or community outreach programs as needed
Maintain accurate, timely documentation in the electronic dental record (EDR)
Adhere to all federal, state, and local regulations including HRSA and New York State requirements
Follow infection control, risk management, and patient safety protocols
Participate in peer review, chart audits, and continuing education activities
DDS or DMD from an accredited dental school
Completion of an accredited Pediatric Dentistry residency program
Current or eligible New York State dental license
DEA registration (or eligibility)
CPR/BLS certification
Experience or strong interest in serving underserved and diverse populations
Prior experience in an FQHC, community health center, or public health setting
Experience treating Medicaid and uninsured pediatric populations
Bilingual skills (e.g., Spanish, Russian, Mandarin, Bengali)
Familiarity with electronic dental records and quality reporting
